Recent NYTimes article says color e-ink is next. This isn’t the same as the LCD technology the Nook, iPad and other eBook readers use, but the non-glare variety in the black & white devices.
Forrester Research just published a five-year forecast for eBooks in the US. For those of you who aren’t going to purchase the study, a summary of their findings is available on their site. Wired has an interesting article on the study as well. Signs do point to ebooks becoming just as popular as we suspect. One interesting fact noted in the Wired article is, “half of the respondents said they had borrowed a book in the last six months” and 38% checked out a book from a library.
It sounds like the audience for eBooks will be the same as existing book readers, they’re just moving from reading bound books to digital.
